CIVIC AND INTERRELIGIOUS OUTREACH
Forming a partnership with other congregations of faith, the Civic and Interreligious Outreach committee builds bridges and affirms our partnership and commitment to the larger community.
FINANCE COMMITTEE
PTBEs Finance Committee provides recommendations and input to the Board of Trustees on long-range financial issues affecting the temple. This committee also oversees the investments of the congregation's Endowment Fund and Designated Funds, which are managed by independent investment professionals.
HAVURAH
Members of Beth El are encouraged to join a Havurah, a friendship group. We help form the groups based on members needs and interests, but the groups are self-directed. Each Havurah consists of members of the congregation who meet in small groups in informal environments of their choice. Havurot focus on friendship, sharing common interests and activities, Judaism and congregational involvement, personal growth, family and community concerns. Havurah members form lasting bonds by creating caring communities.
ISAACISRAEL SOCIAL ACTION AND AWARENESS COMMITTEE
The goal of this committee is to make our congregation and its members aware of the current
events in and around Israel, legislation that affects her, and cultural aspects of the land and
its people. We recently have hosted Yuli Tamir, Member of Knesset, Rabbi Maya Leibovitch from Mevasseret Tzion, and Doron Nesher of the JNF. The committee is searching for people who have a passionate support of Israel and/or would like to see more Israel related events in the future.
KEDUSHA COMMITTEE
The Kedusha Committee works with the clergy in the areas of ritual and religious practices. Areas that the committee has focused on in the recent past are the development of a congregational songbook, meditation and uses of our new meditation room, and leave-taking services for departing clergy. Congregational retreat planning and addressing ongoing questions about the nature of our Shabbat services also fall under this committee.
LIBRARY COMMITTEE
A group of dedicated volunteers come weekly to maintain PTBE's library, one of the largest Jewish libraries in the Bay Area. We have a computerized catalogue as well as a paper catalogue and the books are available for circulation throughout the community. New books and media are added frequently. The annual Library Gala, held to raise funds for the library, is a social evening revolving around guest speakers and/or musicians.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Temple Beth El Membership Committee strives to provide a warm welcome to potential members and to new members. The committee endeavors to make all potential new members feel comfortable asking questions about and exploring PTBE's community, activities, worship, religious school, and other aspects of membership. The committee also seeks to provide new
members with a helping hand and answering any questions they may have as the new members are integrated into our PTBE family.
MITZVAH FRIENDS
A dedicated group of volunteers provides support to our members who are homebound, in need of a meal, or are suffering personal, physical or emotional problems.
SUNDAY SANDWICH HEVRE
Sunday Sandwich Hevre occurs twice a month in our Fellowship Hall and kitchen to make sack
lunches for Samaritan House. Religious School families lead the group in making approximately 500 lunches consisting of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, carrots, fruit, a drink and cookies. We gladly accept donations of peanut butter and jelly, cookies or monetary donations. See the
website for dates and spend a Sunday morning with us.
