Shavuot Movie Midrash: Groundhog Day

  • Peninsula Temple Beth El 1700 Alameda de las Pulgas San Mateo, CA, 94403 United States (map)

One of the funniest and most quotable movies of the 20th century, Groundhog Day is now over 20 years old, yet remains one of many people's favorite comedies, and one of the most iconic performances of Bill Murray's career. As with Torah, we continue to look for new meaning — What can be found when you look at your days differently?

Cynical, bitter, spiritually and morally aimless, Phil Connors is a news reporter in Pennsylvania covering the Groundhog Day festivities. However, the morning after February 2, Phil wakes up to realize… it's Groundhog Day again. Seemingly condemned to live the same day over and over again, Phil starts to realize the possibilities and limitations of his situation and grows as a person in a way he never had before.

A delicious traditional dairy dessert will follow at the end of the program.
