The Tree of Life

We’ve saved the best for last!

Please join us as we experience one of the most original films ever made. The Tree of Life is the film we wanted to show starting on day one, but it is a heavy, complicated, and joyous text that needs to be worked up to.

There are few films that connect with the spiritual, the ethereal, and the unnameable in the way that Terrence Malick’s film does, and it does so perfectly enough to be this writer's favorite movie of all time! On the surface, this is the story of an average family in 1960s Austin, Texas. However you’d never know it since it’s actually about every family in every city at any time. It’s about every person, every insect, bird, dinosaur, or molecule of carbon ever. Intrigued? Come watch with us  and all will be revealed.

Torah can be found anywhere in our lives. Join Rabbi Callie and Matt Schulman as we explore Judaism through the medium of film. Matt will provide the lens of the film critic, while Rabbi Callie connects the film to a Jewish teaching. There is no charge for this event.  Please note the earlier start time of 6:30 pm.
