Tree of Life to Those Who Hold Fast to It
Visiting Artist-in-Residence Soferet (scribe) Ruth Levi

Celebrate Simchat Torah with a hands-on interactive program with our Torah scroll. Deepen our love of Torah through art and calligraphy. Each participant will learn to be a scribe and go home with their own personalized parchment.

During the 1990’s Ruth studied the art of paper cutting with a master Jewish paper cutter, calligraphy in Jerusalem, and learned the art of writing and restoring Torah Scrolls with a Sofer/Torah Scribe in New York City. She has had the unique opportunity to be the first woman, to the best of our knowledge, to restore and do some original writing in Torah Scrolls.
