Welcome in Shabbat with an evening of song and prayer with a special service led by touring Jewish artist Joe Buchanan.
Joe's music is a blend of Southern soul and country charm. His music is grounded in the belief that there is always more room at the table.
A Houston-based singer/songwriter, Joe Buchanan was a spiritual seeker who spent years searching for truth. Dissatisfied with messages of brokenness and human imperfection, he remained spiritually adrift for years. Everything changed when his wife introduced him to the Jewish faith.
Embracing the uplifting messages he found did more than provide him with spiritual answers. It also helped the native Texan find his musical identity. Seeking to share the inspiration he found in Judaism with others through song, Buchanan began writing songs that weave together the sounds of Americana with lyrics that express spiritual messages and teachings of the Jewish faith tradition. He calls it, “Americana with a Jewish Soul.”
His lyrics emphasize universal themes of joy and belief that everyone can embrace. His mission is to create beautiful, uplifting music that drives connection to a loving creator and shares the beauty and light of Judaism. Since the music started just a few years ago, Joe has been invited into congregations and communities across the United States for Shabbat services, concerts, and workshops. He has also performed at the URJ Biennial, NewCAJE, and as a headline act at the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival.
