S'lichot: Experiencing Sacred Space When Your Home is "Under Construction"

  • Peninsula Temple Beth El 1700 Alameda de las Pulgas San Mateo United States (map)

Saturday, September 21 at PTBE

7:00 PM: Study session

8:00 pm: Service with Elana Jagoda Kaye, Saul Kaye, and our clergy

As we prepare to leave our Sanctuary for the High Holy Days, we want you to be prepared to hold it with you. We'll look at the symbol of Sanctuary and the meaning of sacred space through Jewish text, poetry, and art. A candle-lit S'lichot service led by our clergy and Saul Kaye will follow, where we will prepare ourselves and our Torah scrolls for the upcoming Days of Awe.

S'lichot (forgiveness in Hebrew), is a time to prepare our souls and our minds for forgiveness. Rabbi Laura will lead this study session which will involve a creative, hands-on exploration of fear and courage, just in time for our High Holy Days of trembling transformation!

At this time, we publicly change the covers of our Torahs from their everyday blue to white as we symbolically change our souls in preparation for the Days of Awe.

Refreshments will follow the evening's program.
