Elementary Education Programs (K-5th)

Rishonim

Rishonim is our Sunday morning Jewish Education Program for K-5th Grade. Students are divided by grade level classes with community opportunities to be together in our sanctuary for prayer and singing. Our 2nd - 5th graders choose enrichment electives based on their personal interests. Students also get social time together on our playground. Rishonim includes Family Learning Days, holiday celebrations, Sunday Sandwich Chevre (SSH), and support from our teen Madrichim.

Our Rishonim students build on their Jewish learning year by year:

Kindergartners & First Graders learn about Jewish holidays, traditions, values and Torah through creative hands-on activities, plus some beginning Hebrew letter recognition.

Second Graders focus on mitzvot and Jewish values such as tikkun olam (repairing the world), chesed (kindness), and kavod (respect), where students begin to explore what it means to live those values in real life, while enjoying art projects, holidays, and continuing their Hebrew letter learning.

Third Graders explore the stories of Genesis through a colorful, age-appropriate textbook called The Explorer’s Bible, enriched with reflective class discussions and hands-on activities.

Fourth Graders continue their exploration of the stories of Genesis through The Explorer’s Bible, moving into Exodus and an introduction to Israel.

Fifth Graders do a deep dive into heroes from the Torah and key moments in early Jewish history, focusing on making connections to their own lived experience. The second part of the year focuses on Jewish lifecycles.
