Announcement of Special Meeting of the Congregation and Proposed Bylaws Amendments

At the time our bylaws were last amended in February 2020, a commitment was made to our community to review elements of the bylaws left untouched – including PTBE’s statement of purpose, our use of language, and the eligibility requirements for both membership and Trustee service. We are pleased to report the successful completion of this process, which has resulted in proposed bylaws amendments unanimously supported by the clergy team and Board of Trustees. The overarching intention of the amendments is to harmonize our governing document and principles with our values and practices.

Presented here for your review are:

• Final version of proposed amended bylaws

• Red-lined bylaws indicating specific amendments

• Summary document highlighting amendments and their rationale

We hope that you pay particular attention to the revised statement of purpose in article 2.1, and note the amendments in articles 3.1, and 5.5 which have all expanded participation in synagogue life and leadership.

Per our bylaws, amendments must be approved by a vote of the membership of the congregation. In addition to the bylaws review and vote, the agenda for this Special Meeting of the Congregation will include key PTBE updates and a mid-year financial review. Please join us:
